Pool water is a particularly favorable environment for the development of bacteria and other germs… Humidity and heat are the perfect combination for the proliferation of algae, not to mention the deposits and impurities brought by the ambient environment. All these elements alterthe water qualityand require it to be treated very regularly.
There are all sorts of pool water treatments: chlorine, bromine or salt. However, which treatment is best suited to your pool and also the least harmful ?
Treating a swimming pool with chlorine
Chlorinetreatmentis the most common and simplest solution for pool owners; and by far the least expensive. Chlorine solution comes in 2 forms:
- the chlorine tablets to be placed in the skimmer and which will dissolve slowly thanks to the filtration,
- the to be poured directly into the pool water, but we recommend that you only use this solution for water that has turned green or for treatment at the start of the season.
Chlorine treatment isvery effectivebecause it is anantibacterial solutionthat eliminates germs and algae. For prolonged action, we recommend choosing astabilized chlorinewhich will degrade less quickly under UV rays. If there is one major drawback tochlorine treatment, it is that it remains a chemical product and is irritating to the skin, eyes, and mucous membranes.
Swimming pool water treatment with bromine
The is not very restrictive and just as effective as chlorine treatment. It has the same antibacterial properties to purify water and only requires correction every 15 days. It is recommended for indoor pools or spas because it remains effective despite high water temperatures. However, its performance is closely linked to the pH of your pool water , which must be greater than 7 and therefore will require weekly monitoring.
Just like chlorine, bromine is availablein tabletsto be put in the skimmer orin pastillesto be placed in abromine dispenser. Bromine treatment is more expensive than chlorine treatment and the two are not compatible. This means that if you wish to switch from a chlorine solution to a bromine solution, you must first ensure that there are no longerany traces of chlorinein your water.
Salt pool water treatment
Salt treatment is the solution the most natural and least polluting all while water disinfectant of your pool. The water remains sweet, healthy and brings a certain swimming comfort. Maintaining your pool is also less demanding and no longer requires your presence because salt electrolysis relies on a transformation process: the chloride molecule brought by the salt is transformed into chlorine thanks to the input of electrical energy. It is this salt that is the basis of the disinfectionSalt top-ups are done about twice a year and the price of salt is very low. On the other hand, the purchase cost of electrolysis must be anticipated.
