Why choose an Aboral shell pool?

The fiberglass pool has established itself as the benchmark solution in France thanks to its durability, speed of installation, and its low maintenance. Unlike concrete, it does not require a liner and its smooth gelcoat surface is naturally resistant to algae.

  • Quick installation*: 3 to 5 days compared to several weeks for a concrete pool
  • Lifespan 25 to 30 years: polyester gelcoat resistant to UV, shocks, and discoloration
  • Minimal maintenance: non-porous surface that limits algae growth
  • Full support: from the town hall declaration to the pool's startup

Polyester shell pool:
the complete buying guide

With more than 60% of private swimming pools installed each year in France, the fiberglass pool has established itself as the go-to solution for homeowners. Its popularity stems from three concrete advantages:

  • an installation in just 3 to 5 days*,
  • a non-porous gelcoat surface that requires no liner replacement,
  • a significantly simplified maintenance compared to concrete.

Before choosing your model, here's what you need to know about the available ranges, the taxation and financing options.

What range of shell pools to choose according to its use?

The flat bottom range remains the most versatile: constant depth of 1.20 m to 1.55 m over the entire surface of the pool, suitable for swimming as well as games, compatible with all architectural styles. If you have young children, the Sloped background range (shallow area at 0.95 m on one side, swimming area up to 1.60 m on the other) offers concrete safety without sacrificing adult comfort.

For a small garden or an urban terrace, the shell mini-pools less than 10 m² offer a direct tax advantage: they are exempt from development tax and do not cause any property tax increase will take effect.

Finally, mandatory submerged shutter trunk ranges integrate the automatic shutter directly into the hull structure, with approval NF P90-308 standard : the most complete solution for families wishing to combine security, thermal insulation, and aesthetics. To go further, the submerged roller shutter trunk under deck range conceal the mechanism under the swimming deck: the waterline remains continuous, the swimming surface is maximized, and nothing disrupts the aesthetic of the pool.

What is the impact of a shell pool on taxation?

All in-ground shell pool trains two tax adjustments:

  • The development tax is a single tax, calculated on a national flat rate of €262/m² (2025 value). For an 8x4 pool (32 m²) in Bordeaux, it amounts to approximately €628.
  • The property tax then increases each year through the revaluation of the cadastral rental value: the increase varies between €120 and €400/year depending on the municipality, well below what many imagine.

Good news: a temporary exemption of 2 years applies in certain municipalities, provided the pool is declared to the tax authorities within 90 days of the end of the work. After this period, the exemption is permanently lost. Mini-pools of less than 10 m² are not subject to any of these taxes.

How to finance the purchase of a polyester shell pool?

The home improvement loan over 7 to 10 years is the most common solution. For a €25,000 project, a rate of 6.5% over 10 years represents €284/month for a total credit cost of €9,080. Shortening to 7 years increases the monthly payment to around €370, but saves nearly €3,000 in interest.

Increase personal contribution is the most profitable strategy: each additional €5,000 down payment saves approximately €2,000 in interest over 10 years.

If your mortgage loan represents at least 60% of the total consolidated amount, it is possible to integrate your pool project into a ready over 180 months at a more advantageous rate (3.5-5%). Below this threshold, the operation switches to consumer credit, subject to the same ceilings as a classic renovation loan.
